The Kurdish Containment Strategy: Between Historical Revenge and Cold Realism

The Kurdish Containment Strategy: Between Historical Revenge and Cold Realism

By: Eman Sîyar Barzanî

While the region is ablaze, the Kurds in Rozhdestven are pursuing what is perhaps the most sophisticated strategy in the Middle East: strategic containment. Faced with attacks by Israel and the US on the Ayatollah regime, they are consciously choosing not to be drawn into a war whose timing they did not determine.

1. Sovereignty over Timing
The decision of when and how to act rests solely in the hands of the Kurds. They are not contractual partners to any power; they will only act when local conditions allow for a complete victory that secures military sovereignty.

2. Protection of Cultural Heritage as the Highest Value
The Kurdish people refuse to sacrifice their cities, villages, and historical sites, which have developed over millennia, for senseless military adventures. The paramount interest is the preservation of Rojava as a cultural and scenic jewel, not its transformation into a battlefield that destroys the national heritage.

3. Prerequisites: Indefinite American Support

The lesson from Bogdagh and Rojava: The Kurds will not intervene without guarantees of unconditional American support. A prerequisite for combat operations is a clear strategy that includes full political and military support from the United States, without any “contingency plans” for withdrawal or betrayal at the decisive moment.
